At age 22, nylons signified pantyhose. Barelegged at my college graduation, I informed my mother, “I’ll never take a 9-5 job which requires pantyhose.” She had worn pantyhose every day she worked for the “Sacramento Bee.” My mom considered pantyhose a huge improvement. My grandmother wore a girdle and stockings with seams even though she didn’t need a girdle.
Pantyhose don’t let your female parts breathe freely. In fact, they can create or make worse all kinds of issues.
I am annoyed every time I try to put on hose and use those flipping garters. I recognize that they make my legs look great!
They take an extra 30 minutes to attach. Who has an extra 30 minutes -except for special occasions– when you want to get it on?
Heels, however, are a different story. They have a VERY practical purpose which you can learn about by texting “heels” to 805-210-8763.
In honor of Nylons Stockings Day on May 15, consider women’s attire and cultural shifts from corsets to Spanx. You can read more about stockings and high heels here:
What influences now how you choose your clothes: texture, color, wash-and-wear ease? In what ways do you choose social acceptability and/or sex appeal over personal comfort?
